COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Multiple Easter egg hunts are planned around the Metro ahead of Easter on April 20. Jackson will host an egg hunt Saturday at Livingston Park at the Jackson Zoo with a 10 a.m. lineup and a 10:30 a.m. start that offers free entry for children and a $5 charge for adults — additional hunts are scheduled on April 19 in Jackson, on April 10 in Ridgeland, and by Delta Nu Psi Incorporated with free food, music, games and dancing.  WAPT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Storms that passed through Mississippi Wednesday night into Thursday morning damaged 60 homes in five counties—Benton, Bolivar, Marshall, Tate and Tippah—and injured six people with no deaths reported while the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency works with local officials to provide tarps, water and food to those affected.  WAPT

CRIME NEWS

  • A 37-year-old Jackson man named Kendrick Stubbs is wanted for auto theft, false pretense and embezzlement of an auto after he used a counterfeit check to buy a vehicle on Facebook Marketplace on March 12 and then sold it on March 13 — he later followed the second buyer home and stole the car back.  WLBT News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Candidates in Jackson’s 2025 city elections raised and spent over half a million dollars in a primary held on April 1; state senator John Horhn raised over $101,000 and will face incumbent Mayor Lumumba in an April 22 runoff. Two other self-funded mayoral campaigns each raised over $100,000—though the money did not lead to many votes.  Mississippi Today
  • Legislature approved Senate Bill 2211—revived by Rep. Dana McLean to ensure no rape victim is turned away from a hospital—and the bill will go to the Governor’s desk; if signed, it will take effect July 1 and add more rights for sexual assault survivors. This law aims to address past gaps in emergency care for sexual assault victims.  FOX 40
  • Gov. Tate Reeves spoke Thursday at the Sillers building in downtown Jackson after severe weather brought high winds and thousands of power outages — he said the Legislature may call a special session since it adjourned Wednesday without passing a state budget.  WAPT
