  • Residents along College Hill Drive in Northwest Jackson are upset as criminals dump trash even after repeated city cleanups—trash that includes mattresses, furniture, and household items—prompting calls for tougher surveillance, arrests, and penalties. They say city leaders must act quickly to end the illegal dumping.  FOX 40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kumar Bhavanasi, a tech founder and shopping center owner from New Jersey, bought two downtown buildings and won an auction bid for a high-rise that he will close on in 30 days. He will invest tens of millions to fix up the properties and change one into 150 to 200 apartments—steps he says will bring new residents and businesses downtown.  FOX 40

  • A masked man fired a gun inside a Family Dollar on Siwell Road Tuesday afternoon and robbed the store before fleeing south with money—police said.  WLBT News

  • Voters today cast their ballots in municipal elections — selecting Jackson Mayor, Brandon Mayor, Flowood Mayor and several council candidates. Election results are being updated as votes are counted.  WLBT News
  • The House passed a resolution to extend the session in an effort to finish the budget without holding a special session and then adjourned on Wednesday, but some Senate members opposed the move and did not vote on the extension—leaving the budget unresolved. The Senate is returning today to decide the next steps.  WLBT News
