Good morning, Jackson.

Jackson police charged a man with murder after a shooting left one person dead and another injured.

A federal court sentenced Michael Shaffer to 262 months, Montero Willis to 151 months and Deyonkia Willis to 60 months for their roles in Dakota Bell's murder on County 149 in Choctaw on September 23rd, 2023.

State budget negotiations remain stalled after talks ended last weekend as Senate and House leaders plan to extend the session on paper, while some lawmakers warned that if no budget agreement is reached by tomorrow, the session would adjourn sine die — leaving government funding at risk.

Records show that by Monday morning before Tuesday’s primaries, only seven mayoral candidates in Jackson filed campaign finance reports while half, including Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, missed the March 25 deadline.

Additional filings came in from council hopefuls such as Ward councilwoman Tina Clay, and Tim Henderson raised $45,634.38 (mostly from his own contributions).

NFL Draft prospect Jaxson Dart went turkey hunting in Georgia over the weekend and was pictured with the kill — Realtree Camouflage Vice President Tyler Jordan captured the moment following Dart’s pro day at Ole Miss on March 28.
