CRIME NEWS

  • Capitol Police are investigating a shooting after officers found a victim on Terry Road shortly after 11 a.m. Monday and later learned the incident happened on Florence Avenue near JSU — no arrests have been made.  WAPT
  • Sunday night a homicide occurred in Jackson and Carly Gregg reported she has a new attorney while getting ready for today's Primary Election—no further details have been provided.  FOX 40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Senate Bill 2211 would require hospitals to have rape kits and staff trained to use them and is now under discussion in the Senate. State Rep. Dana McLean said the bill helps ensure victims are not turned away — the Mississippi Hospital Association supports the proposal with suggested changes to meet federal law.  WAPT
  • Jackson voters stressed issues like code enforcement, safety, and job growth as they prepare to choose a new mayor and city council today while the incumbent faces bribery allegations.   • Jackson has launched an 18‑month Real Estate Developer Training Camp with Grow America to tackle housing shortages and urban blight, with Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba saying the program will boost property values and support local entrepreneurs.
