  • City officials say the animal shelter will reopen soon after much-needed repairs and updates, giving local residents a safe place for pet adoptions. The reopening is expected to boost community care for animals.  WLBT News
  • New data shows the metro population grew from 608,497 in July 2024 to 609,847 in July 2025, a 0.22% increase. Residents say affordability may drive the modest rise even as the city faces water system and infrastructure challenges.  WAPT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A gas leak that caused dangerously high combustion levels in Flowood was repaired and Bristol Crossing reopened around 2 p.m. Wednesday after the school district was notified to plan alternate bus routes (clearance was expected by 7 p.m. Thursday).  WAPT

  • Crews are cleaning up the Mississippi Trade Mart after a fire damaged products and left soot on its walls, preparing for the Build Mississippi SkillsUSA event scheduled for Tuesday. Executive Director Hayes Patrick said cleanup will finish by Sunday (allowing the venue to reopen).  WAPT

  • Country star Travis Tritt will perform with David Lee Murphy and Chris Cagle at Brandon Amphitheater on Saturday, June 13 and will later hold a solo concert at IP Casino Resort & Spa in Biloxi on Friday, Oct. 9.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

  • Local drivers at Murphy Express on County Line + Ridgewood in Jackson found pumps dry around 1 p.m. Thursday, and a gas tanker arrived an hour later to refill the station with regular gas priced at $3.39/gallon.  WAPT

  • Mississippi lawmakers honored Seattle Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall on Wednesday at the state capitol for his Super Bowl success and charitable work with his One Percent foundation.
