- ➤ A Jackson firefighter was injured today when a fire broke out at an apartment complex—emergency crews responded quickly and are working to secure the scene. WLBT News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Jackson police officer — Jagguar Winder — appeared in court Tuesday and was charged with domestic violence and aggravated assault after he allegedly used his personal vehicle on March 12 to deliberately crash into his girlfriend’s car, point a gun at her, and cause injuries to her and two others, with the victim being a pregnant police dispatcher who had her 11-month-old daughter in the car. - ➤ Jackson police report that Destiny Stewart and Samuel Coleman died from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide over the weekend on the 1100 block of Forest Avenue, and next of kin have been notified while investigators continue to review the case. WAPT

- ➤ Jackson Coffee Festival will launch Saturday, May 10th at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—more than a dozen specialty coffee roasters will serve samples and lead classes on coffee tasting including cold brew and cupping, with tickets priced at $10 and free parking available. - ➤ City council candidates met at Jackson State University to share their ideas ahead of the primary next week — 31 of 33 candidates discussed issues like crime, infrastructure, and job creation. Adjunct professor Jacobi Grant said the forum was set up to let voters hear unbiased information via an online broadcast and community members also joined. WAPT
- ➤ City leaders in Jackson are asking state lawmakers for nearly $60 million to repair blight and upgrade facilities such as Leavell Woods Park (including a new fire station and community centers) as the session nears its end. They say Jackson has received much less funding compared to smaller communities and will push for these improvements to meet urgent local needs. Mississippi Today
