  • Dr. John M. Perkins, a respected civil rights leader, pastor and author, died on Mar. 13 at his home near Jackson, surrounded by his wife and family. He is remembered for his work in voter registration and school desegregation in Mendenhall (married 74 years with eight children).  WAPT
  • Residents in Brandon voiced concerns about a proposed development in their neighborhood, saying they would not welcome the project in their backyard (they worry about its impact on local life). City officials are set to review the proposal soon.  WLBT News
  • A local youth organization removed illegally dumped tires from several neighborhoods earlier today, helping improve community safety and cleanliness in Jackson.  WLBT News

  • Jackson's Bobby Rush, aged 92, will make his Oscars debut this weekend as part of a tribute for the film 'Sinners,' joining Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq at the 98th Oscars set for Sunday on 16 WAPT—honoring his legacy with a namesake street.  WAPT

  • Tougaloo College has named Dr. Corey Wiggins its 15th president after a national search. The Mississippi native and recognized policy leader will begin his role on July 1, succeeding Dr. Donzell Lee.  WAPT
  • Dr. Elayne Hayes-Anthony, a trailblazer in Jackson's broadcasting and respected professor at Belhaven and JSU, passed away on March 5. JSU is holding a celebration of life today at 11 a.m. — the event will take place inside the Rose E. McCoy Auditorium.  Mississippi Free Press
