- ➤ Gov. Tate Reeves opted Mississippi into the federal tax credit scholarship program that lets families with incomes up to 300% of the median use voucher funds for private school and homeschool costs. The program—eligible donations start in January 2027—may soon expand statewide as lawmakers consider offering Magnolia Student Accounts. Mississippi Free Press

- ➤ Jackson is bracing for a mix of ice and sleet this weekend as the National Weather Service warns of up to a half-inch of ice that could cause road hazards and power disruptions. Local public works is pre-treating roads with three salt and sand trucks and heavy machinery. WAPT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Airline passengers without Real ID in Mississippi must pay a $45 identity verification fee starting Feb. 1 to pass through TSA checkpoints. The fee supports TSA ConfirmID (a 10-day system for round-trip flights) and reflects a new government effort to verify traveler identities. WAPT
- ➤ A bill introduced by Rep. Jeffery Harness on Jan. 16 will let high school athletes earn money from their name, image and likeness if passed — the proposal limits compensation to $10,000 a year, requires parental signatures, and schedules a vote by Feb. 12 with effects on July 1. WLBT News

- ➤ Mississippi lawmakers at Tuesday’s meeting approved a bill to set up clinical trials of ibogaine for treating opioid addiction and other mental health conditions in Jackson, and Rep.
