ECONOMY NEWS

  • Job fairs have begun to help hire 200 workers for a new manufacturing facility as part of the Metrocenter Revitalization Project. The first fair was held yesterday at Jackson Medical Mall, the second is today at Metrocenter Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the third will be tomorrow at Hinds Community College + the facility will produce eco-friendly construction products.  WAPT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A report released Tuesday by the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative found that 2025 funding cuts and a pause in the Child Care Payment Program hurt working families and child care providers statewide. The survey of 229 centers serving nearly 11,000 children showed losses in care access, revenue, and staffing.  WAPT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new national report from the Common Sense Institute released this month finds Mississippi has some of the lowest homelessness rates, with fewer chronic, unsheltered cases and less mental illness and substance abuse compared to states like California and New York.  WAPT
  • Mississippi oilman Kevin Wilson launched his campaign for Congress on Monday at Bluff Park in Natchez, seeking to challenge Rep. Bennie Thompson by emphasizing his business experience and focus on local issues.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • The Jackson Fire Department responded to 13,027 calls, inspected 4,230 sites, and conducted 421 fire investigations in 2025. Fire Chief RaSean O. Thomas said the department will boost training & community outreach in 2026 to improve emergency response.  WAPT
