- ➤ Officials battled a bush fire near the 1400 block of Clara Foote Road on Wednesday using Forestry Commission equipment to create lanes that contained the flames; about 60 acres burned without putting any structures at risk. FOX 40
- ➤ Firefighters fought a brush fire that burned 20 acres before 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 near Clara Foote Road in the Star/Piney Woods area, and they kept flames from reaching a hunting camp and an ATV storage area with no injuries reported. WAPT

- ➤ A beloved local restaurant that has served the community for 70 years will close next month, with owner Anderson Crechale saying its final day is Feb. 15 after Bob Crechale passed on Christmas Eve. FOX 40

- ➤ Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves announced on Monday that the state was awarded nearly $206 million from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to strengthen rural healthcare access and workforce, and the plan created with input from key stakeholders will ensure quality patient care for all rural residents by 2031.
